Chapter 174: Closing Remarks
The finals.
It was a highly anticipated match between Mika’s strength and Lime’s flexibility—but the result was surprisingly one-sided, with Mika winning in no time.
The atmosphere in the venue had leaned in Lime’s favor, but Mika’s instincts were sharper than ever.
Neither invisibility, nor splitting, nor magic worked; every trick was blocked, and Lime was defeated 3–0 by Mika’s straightforward attacks.
This was simply Mika’s victory to praise.
Even when Lime had perfectly taken her back, it was struck by what looked like a random sword swing—a stroke of bad luck.
I hope Lime doesn’t dwell on the loss, but bounces back and continues to grow.
“Thank you for the thrilling matches. The runner-up is Lime. And the champion is Mika! Congratulations!”
“Yay! Thank you! Last year ended in a frustrating loss, so I’m really happy to have won this year!
Well, if I could wish for more… I did want to fight Sheila.”
After saying that, Mika raised her fist toward Sheila in the audience.
Sheila’s eyes blazed in response, making it clear—next year’s mock battle tournament would be something to look forward to.
“I also wanted to see Mika vs. Sheila, but let’s save that as next year’s treat. For now, this year’s champion is Mika, with a flawless victory! Please give her a round of applause!”
Thunderous applause filled the hall, and Mika, full of energy, responded with enthusiasm.
“Next, we’ll present the champion’s prize. This year we’ve raised the grade a little—here’s your reward.”
What I handed to Mika was a foldable, ultra-light tent.
It was sturdy, light, easy to carry, and perfect for dungeon expeditions.
I had wanted to include a sleeping bag too, but due to budget reasons, this time it was just the tent.
Even so, for Mika and her team, who often explore dungeons, it would be a very useful item.
“A tent? Wow! It’s so light!”
“I picked something portable—should be perfect for dungeon expeditions.”
“Last year, Ren’s wristwatch prize was great, but this tent is just as awesome! I feel a bit guilty getting such a wonderful item on top of all the fun I’ve had!”
“You entertained us plenty, and winning a tournament full of strong contenders deserves a prize worthy of it. We plan to hold this event again next year, so I hope you’ll join us as the defending champion.”
“Of course I’ll join! Thanks for saying it’ll be held next year! I’ll polish my skills even more by then!”
Mika gave a thumbs-up, smiling brightly, before heading back to the audience.
“With that, the Second Mock Battle Tournament is officially concluded. After this, we’ll hold a banquet, so please stay and enjoy the food. Also, those who correctly predicted the champion can come to the tournament office to receive their prize.”
After making the announcement, I handed things over to Sheila and hurried to the kitchen.
The only reason I’d been able to watch the finals was because Norman and the others had started preparations early.
Now it was my turn to help however I could.
Thanks to Norman, his apprentices, and the dragonkin chef, a huge amount of food was already prepared.
I felt bad for having just enjoyed myself while they worked so hard.
“Sorry for being late. You’ve already finished so much food!”
“We prepared thoroughly in advance, so it came together fairly quickly.”
“I didn’t get to watch the semifinals onward, but I saw everything up to then!”
“I see. If you enjoyed it even a little, that’s good enough. Thank you.”
“You don’t need to thank me. Jacob and I are part of this place too. More importantly, Sato—please do the taste check.”
Jacob, it turned out, was the dragonkin chef.
In just two days since Norman’s arrival, he had taught him so much that Jacob had practically become his apprentice.
“Understood. Let’s start checking, and we’ll carry out the dishes that pass. Everyone must be hungry—they’ll be thrilled.”
“Got it! We’re counting on you, Sato.”
And so, I began the final taste check.
As expected, every dish passed with flying colors.
Of course, these were professionals whose livelihoods were cooking.
Even if they didn’t know the recipes beforehand, once taught, they produced dishes of incredible quality.
I was truly impressed, and while thinking that, I carried the finished dishes out to everyone.
