Chapter 461: Seems Like It Didn’t Work Out
The next day, after completing my morning training and tending to the herb garden, I immediately went to pick up Fabienne. It had been a while since I traveled on Mira. Traveling through the sky really is a pleasant experience. As expected, the townspeople weren’t concerned with what was happening in the sky. Besides, I tried to stay inconspicuous by flying mostly above rooftops.
“Thank you for coming, Julius-sama.”
“Sorry, am I late?”
“No, not at all.”
I was greeted by Fabienne at the House of Baron Amber and was promptly guided to the salon. Of course, it wouldn’t be proper to take her away without at least greeting her parents.
“Well, well, Julius-sama. Welcome.”
“Good morning. I’m hoping to borrow Fabienne’s help once again.”
“Of course! Fabienne has seemed rather restless, after all.”
“Father!”
Fabienne turned red as her secret was revealed. She really is adorable—my lovely wife. Even the baroness watched over her warmly.
I told Fabienne and the baron couple about everything that had happened over the past two days.
“To think the magic potions were all sold out. You should have just called on us without hesitation.”
“I couldn’t do that. I can’t be the only one monopolizing Fabienne’s time.”
“Such thoughtfulness… Thank you.”
Baron Amber bowed his head to me. That wasn’t really my intention. I just wanted them to enjoy their family time together. Still, maybe I’m being overly considerate.
Given my status as a Count, the baron’s family seemed to feel unnecessarily humble.
After promising to pick up and drop off Fabienne every day from now on, I left the Baron Amber residence.
Riding Mira again for the first time in a while, Fabienne clung to me just like she used to. Is it just my imagination, or does her chest feel a bit firmer than before?
“It’s a little scary flying through the sky after so long, isn’t it?”
“N-No, not at all!”
Despite saying that, Fabienne clung tightly to me. If she’s not scared, then why is she holding on so firmly? Could it be that she missed me so much that she just wanted to hold me tight?
I want to ask—but I feel like I shouldn’t. As I thought that, it felt like I could feel Fabienne’s heartbeat thumping against my back. Of course, my own heart was pounding too.
While we both sat there with racing hearts, Mira happily glided through the skies.
As soon as we arrived at the mansion, we began making magic potions. Today, we prepared hot cookies in preparation for the winter. With Fabienne by my side, the work was genuinely fun.
At noon, we headed to the dining hall, where we found Daniela, my dear sister-in-law, wearing a troubled expression.
“Sister-in-law-Daniela, is something wrong?”
“Julius-chan… actually, yes.”
With that, she took out a letter. Fabienne and I read the letter together. Curious, Mira—who had been sitting on my lap—leaned forward as well. You can’t read, can you?
“Um… was it okay for us to read this?”
The letter was from Her Majesty the Queen in the royal capital—Sister-in-law-Daniela Daniela’s mother. It stated that the royal court’s magic apothecaries had attempted to create a perfect recovery potion but failed.
If the most advanced group of apothecaries in the country can’t make it, that’s not something we want becoming public knowledge.
“Of course it’s fine. The royal apothecaries can’t make the perfect recovery potion. But you can, right, Julius-chan?”
“Well, yes…”
Fabienne already knew I could make the perfect recovery potion. But she seemed surprised that the royal apothecaries failed. Her eyes grew wide as she read the letter over and over again.
“Is making a perfect recovery potion that difficult?”
“It’s definitely on the harder side. But more than that, gathering the ingredients is tough. I’d love to teach you how to make it too, Fabienne, but without the materials, that’ll have to wait.”
Fabienne frowned slightly, her expression conflicted. She seemed unsure if it was really okay to learn how to make a potion even the royal apothecaries couldn’t. But it is okay. If something ever happens to me, and no one else can make it, that would be a real problem.
“Say, Julius-chan, would you be willing to teach the royal apothecaries how to make the perfect recovery potion?”
“I don’t mind that, but going to the capital right now would be… I just returned to the House of Heine. I still have other things I want to do here.”
Besides, if I went to the capital now, I’d be separated from Fabienne. And Mira, too. I don’t want that. Absolutely not.
“Of course, I understand. That’s why I’m thinking of inviting the royal apothecaries here instead. What do you think?”
Not a bad idea. And while they’re here, maybe they can also help make potions to sell through the Heine Trading Company. Their skills will improve, and it should be a good deal for them too.
“If Alex-niisan approves, I have no objection. And how about having them help out with the Heine Trading Company’s work as well?”
“Great idea. Yes, let’s make it a regular thing—invite the royal apothecaries periodically and have them make potions under the guise of skill training.”
Is this really okay? Doesn’t it count as abuse of authority? Well, if it’s an order from a princess of the realm, no one’s going to refuse. No doubt, this will be one of the conditions for me teaching them how to make the perfect recovery potion. Sister-in-law-Daniela Daniela is a sharp one.
With this, the future of the Heine Frontier Count’s Household looks bright.
