Chapter 462: A Convenient Relationship
While I was confirming the next steps with Sister-in-law Daniela, Alex-niisan also returned for lunch. It seems that lately, instead of eating at the company, he’s been coming back to the estate to have meals with Daniela. I guess eating alone can be lonely.
“Alex, a letter arrived from Mother.”
“From Her Majesty the Queen? I wonder what it’s about.”
We included Alex-niisan, who read through the letter, in the discussion we had previously finalized. There didn’t seem to be any issues, and approval was given immediately. Sister-in-law Daniela looked relieved as well. Even though she’s going to marry into the Heine Frontier Count’s household, she still cares about the country. Of course she would.
“In that case, I’ll send a letter to Mother right away.”
“Alright, then I’ll start preparing the reception arrangements. The royal court’s magic pharmacist seems to have taken a liking to Julius, so I can entrust the company’s work to him with peace of mind.”
It seems things are conveniently turning into a win-win situation. My connection with the royal magic pharmacists might deepen further, but it can’t be helped. It’s certainly better than having the supply of magical potions stop whenever I’m away from the Heine estate.
Neither Alex-niisan nor the townspeople should find themselves in trouble because of this.
Rosalia joined us and we all had lunch together. In the afternoon, I would be making a magical water heater together with Edward. It seems he was already at the workshop this morning.
“You seem to be working quite hard on it.”
“They’re selling really well!”
Huh, really? They’re already on sale? When I looked at Alex-niisan, he gave me a nod. I didn’t hear anything about this. Maybe he was being considerate and didn’t mention it to me? I’ve been busy making magical potions non-stop these past few days, after all.
“So you made a new magical tool?”
“Oh, I hadn’t told you yet, Fabienne. We made a magical device that can boil water instantly. It’s the one Nero was using during tea time.”
“What? That ordinary pot was a magical tool?”
“Actually, yes.”
It looked just like a common pot, so it’s no wonder Fabienne didn’t notice. If you look closely, it does have a bit of a bulky and odd shape, so maybe one might think it looked a little strange.
“So you weren’t just making magical potions, but magical tools as well?”
“Oh, the magical tool was originally made by our craftsmen—I only made a few improvements. I didn’t make it from scratch or anything.”
I quickly denied it. For some reason, it was starting to sound like I made the whole thing myself, so I had to make it clear. I must never take credit for the achievements of our craftsmen. I had already explained this to Alex-niisan too. That’s why the developer of the magical water heater is listed as the Heine Trading Company. It seems that having a trading company as the developer is an unusual thing.
“Right, I’ll give one to the Amber Baron family as a gift. They’ve always been so helpful to us. It seems easy to use, and I doubt it’ll go to waste. Don’t you think so, Nero?”
“Yes. The magical water heater is a truly excellent magical tool. It can boil water anytime, anywhere, instantly. It’s very useful because it lets us make delicious tea at any moment.”
If you had a servant skilled in magic, maybe it wouldn’t be that necessary, but not all servants are that talented. For servants who can’t use magic, a magical tool like this, which lets them boil water as if by magic, might be a godsend. …Or is that exaggerating a bit?
“I feel a little bad just receiving so many things, but thank you. I’m sure the servants will be delighted.”
Fabienne accepted it with a smile. Since it was a tool that would benefit not just her but the servants too, she accepted it without any awkwardness.
Alright then, I think I’ll make some magical tools this afternoon. While I’m at it, I’ll go around the company with Fabienne. I haven’t done that since I came back here.
In the afternoon, I headed to the workshop with Rosalia. We met up with Edward there and made a magical water heater for the Amber Baron family. It seems Edward and Rosalia have become quite close—I secretly suspect it’s practically a done deal between them.
Fabienne seems to think the same and decided to watch over them with a warm gaze, just like I am. While everyone shared ideas for improvements and decorative versions for wealthy clients, we worked on completing the magical tool. It was a fine product made using copper, known for its high thermal conductivity. The only downside might be that it dents if struck.
“What do you think?”
“It’s lovely. Are you sure I can really have this?”
“Of course. It was made for the Amber Baron family. Look, the family crest is engraved here.”
“Oh, you’re right. When did that…?”
She seemed to have missed it due to how smoothly everything had gone. I had thought about making a flashy, gold-plated version, but it was a bit too shiny, so I dropped the idea. If it were going to be displayed somewhere, that might be fine, but I wanted to make something practical. I believe magical tools only have value when they’re actually used.
