Chapter 210: Let’s Go Home
The Next Day
As Zval had promised, the Zabadak family’s magic vehicle unit arrived in Meraja early in the morning. Zval, who had entered Meraja ahead of them, rejoined the group, and preparations for departure began after a brief rest.
Nearby, Eleonora was closely inspecting a sword handed to her by Isamu, her expression serious.
“This is the Lightning Sword, huh? Its balance as a blade is ordinary,”
“Yes. Other than the addition of a magic stone, no major modifications were made to the sword itself.”
Isamu replied, looking drowsy.
The group had worked tirelessly through the night to prepare for their impending departure. Among their tasks was crafting the Lightning Sword, which had been selected by Esteban, the Knight Commander. The design closely resembled Eleonora’s preferred bastard sword but included a magic circle inscribed in it.
Interestingly, Esteban was visibly nervous during Eleonora’s sword trials—an amusing testament to her reputation, which had spread even to Plazzo.
“If you manage to strike an opponent’s joint, it should inflict considerable damage. But be cautious—it requires getting very close,”
Isamu advised, with concern.
“Ha! It’s rare to hear someone worry about me. Gascoigne never spares a word for my safety.”
Eleonora laughed.
“That’s because I can’t imagine you ever losing,”
Gascoigne retorted, frowning at her teasing.
Nearby, Dekart, a captain in the Zabadak knights, was being briefed by Eto on the use of an upgraded Lightning Orb.
“So, this is the Lightning Orb Mark II. It’s stronger and reusable.”
Dekart noted, impressed.
“Exactly. But always throw it far. Otherwise, you’ll zap friend and foe alike.”
Eto cautioned.
The Lightning Orb Mark II had been modified for land use. While effective over water due to minimal obstructions, its range was reduced on land in favor of increased power. Eto explained that the orb’s effectiveness had been fine-tuned to minimize risks to allies while compensating for the power loss in the air compared to water.
“I’d heard from Zval that you could create magic devices, but seeing it firsthand is astonishing.”
Dekart murmured, visibly awed.
“Wait, you’re lending us ten magic giant golems?”
“Oh my! They’ll certainly come in handy.”
“Originally, we wanted to send more, but we need to leave some for city defense and our research team. We’re also keeping several as part of our defense strategy.”
Due to last-minute repairs overnight, two additional second-generation golems were operational, bringing the total to 20. Of these, 10 would join the expedition, with members of the Avalushi group and pilots from both the Balsham and Zval’s forces manning them.
“What about those older first-generation models?”
Eleonora asked, pointing to a parked unit.
“Some will be returned as war trophies. Two are being presented to the king,”
Isamu replied, rubbing his neck.
“The king, huh?”
Eleonora mused.
“Yes. We’re not handing over any second-generation models, but offering a few of these helps strengthen diplomatic ties. Besides, the first-gen models are too resource-intensive, operating only with non-attribute magic stones. They’re impractical for our long-term needs.”
Isamu outlined the plan: two units would return with their group, one fully operational and two non-functioning, to be gifted to the royal family. The remaining five would be used for training in Meraja before deployment to the frontlines. Non-operational units would remain in storage in Meraja for future use.
Isamu turned to Zval and the others.
“About those first-generation units, I have a favor to ask…”
And with that, discussions about their plans continued as they readied themselves for the road ahead.
“I see you have the first-generation Zun on the front lines, but could you destroy them as much as possible? Even if we manage to capture them, I’d still prefer they be destroyed.”
“Oh…?”
“I have a general idea, but can I ask the reason?”
“If too many of these remain operational, it will throw the balance of power off completely. This thing is a weapon that shouldn’t exist in this era.”
“Indeed. But you’re sounding quite a bit like Samuel, aren’t you?”
“Haha, maybe Samuel-san has influenced me. And there’s one more reason.”
“One more?”
“To operate these, a significant amount of magic stones is required, right? I don’t want such valuable magic stones to be wasted on these things.”
“Ha-ha-ha! You’re calling a magic device that could change the very concept of warfare ‘these things’? How very like you, Isamu!”
Eleanora burst into laughter at Isamu’s overly blunt comment.
“And besides, if these were made operational, we’d be bombarded with demands to maintain and manage them, wouldn’t we? I have so many things I want to research—I don’t want to waste my time on that.”
“Hahaha, I see. Got it. If that’s the case, I’ll make sure to destroy them in style as soon as we find them. I’ll inform Nazario and the others as well.”
“Thank you very much. I appreciate it.”
“Hehe, don’t mention it. If you develop new magic devices for us in return, our faction will benefit immensely. It’s a win-win situation.”
Zval laughed heartily as he reassured Isamu, who bowed his head in thanks.
The stock of explosive orbs and scattering magic bombs, along with a limited number of magic cannons, lance cannons, and lightning-short spears, was distributed to the front-line units and for base defense.
Additionally, all the non-attrubute magic stones, except for those needed for possible combat on the way back to their territory, were handed over.
Once preparations for departure were complete, those leaving and those seeing them off gathered at the gates.
“With all these supplies, we can’t come back empty-handed.”
“Hahaha, they’ve really gone all out for us. Leave the rest to us, Isamu. You can take it easy in your territory.”
“Indeed. This is a situation of our own making, so we’ll see it through to the end.”
Isamu shook hands in turn with Zval, Eleanora, and Liliene.
“Well then, everyone, I leave it to you.”
“Of course.”
“Consider it done.”
“Indeed.”
With these farewells, the group of magic vehicles and giant magic golems set off westward.
Three days later, just as Samuel had said, the main reinforcements consisting of the Felker family, the Kalenberg family, and the Zabdak family arrived in Meraja.
Isamu and his group informed them that Zval and the others had already advanced with the magic giant golems and that Samuel had headed south. They also handed over the magic devices they had mass-produced over the past three days.
The following morning, after days of training, the main force departed with five first-generation golems that they had finally managed to operate.
Isamu and his group, meanwhile, conducted their final checks to head toward Klaufendam.
It had been about two months since the shocking news that the magic giant golems had attacked Plazzo.
And about a month since meeting the leader of Avalushi, Liliene, and deciding to fight alongside her.
Finally, Isamu and his companions set out on their journey back to Klaufendam.
“Let’s go home, to Klaufendam.”
“Yes!”
As they departed, each carried with them memories of the tumultuous days that had passed like a storm.
