Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 13: Attendant Knight 《Tsukaeshi》① – His name is Wof.

A week had passed.

Time flew quickly. In just over two more weeks, the festival would begin.

To be honest, to me, the Great of Rounds was nothing more than a festival.
And I wasn’t wrong—most people probably saw it the same way.

Of course, it wasn’t entirely unrelated to me.
The Witch was a First-Rank Explorer, and I was her disciple.

But since I wasn’t one of the principal figures, I felt it didn’t concern me much.
Right now, my goal was to defeat Alweld.

The daily lectures had continued since then.
Though the number of times I was defeated had been reduced to ten times in the morning and five times in the afternoon.

“Haa… haa… haa…”

Lately, I’d stopped collapsing completely.

And once a day or so, Shardina—whom I fought—was driven into the ground.
I managed to bring her down, but she was still in one piece. That, in itself, felt strange.
Normally, her horns would be broken at least.

“…Am I… getting stronger?”

There shouldn’t have been any difference in strength among the Minos Dolls.
Yet today, she felt tough—even though I was only watching most of the time.

Ugh—then Shardina’s eyes met mine.

Wait, why were her eyes open? The other Minos Dolls always kept theirs closed.
Since they didn’t have vision, they had no need to open them.

And yet, Shardina was glaring straight at me.
Her eyes gleamed with a pale, lifelike glow. That’s impossible.

(…Next time… I will pin you down…)

Eh?

“Wh-what?”

And then she vanished.
Minos Dolls always disappeared after a certain amount of time once defeated. That part was normal.

“……”

So that really was… No, better not. I shouldn’t overthink it.
I can’t keep up with things coming one after another.

Anyway, for no real reason—no, there was a reason but I’d rather not dwell on it—
I decided to forbid Munieka-san from summoning Shardina anymore.

It was noon. Before lunch, I went to the bath to wash off the sweat.

Afterward, Munieka-san’s cooking would be waiting.
Her meals were delicious, with a wide variety.

When she once summoned a Minos Doll in her 17-year-old form, she explained—
Back then, she traveled the world training in cuisine while working as an explorer.

It was also said that she hadn’t yet discovered her true calling as a maid at the time.
Well, anyway—when I came out of the bath, the Witch had returned.

Everyone was gathered in the dining room. Hm? What’s this?
Not scrolls. They were all staring intently at sheets of paper.

The Adventurers’ Guild had abolished scrolls a dozen years ago, moving everything to paper.
I’d heard that even now, the archives were still busy transcribing old scroll records into paper format.

“…Um, everyone?”

Since something felt off, I asked hesitantly.

The Witch, Shiro-san, Chive-san, even Munieka-san—all were silently staring at the paper.

If they were all looking at the same sheet, it probably had to do with the First-Rank Explorers.
I was curious about what was written there, but figured it wasn’t my business.

My stomach rumbled, so I sat down.
Lunch was already set on the table. Immediately, everyone turned their eyes toward me.

“Eh? Uh, um…”

They all looked troubled, as if unsure what to do.
And on top of that, sparks seemed to fly between them.

It felt just like when Munieka-san had called me Master.
What was going on here? Suddenly, the Witch placed the paper on the table and looked straight at me.

“Well now, Wof-boy. Do you know what an Attendant Knight—Tsukaeshi—is?”

“What’s that?”

That came out of nowhere.

“Then, then, let me explain, hmm? A Tsukaeshi is basically an assistant or errand-runner who serves a First-Rank Explorer during the Great of Rounds. Someone who stays by their side at all times during the event.”

“I see.”

“Usually they just pick a subordinate, a friend, or a family member.”

“Pick?”

“Yes, Tsukaeshi are chosen by nomination. When you’re nominated, your name appears on this preference sheet.”

“Huh…”

“Please see for yourself, Master.”

Munieka-san handed me the sheet, with a subtle but weighty air.
Let’s see…

A total of 30 names.
Some of them definitely stood out.

“…So, the names inside the parentheses are the ones nominated as the Tsukaeshi attendants, right? What about the ones that just say ‘Guild’?”

“Ah, those are guild staff. If no one specific is chosen, they’re assigned instead.”

“I see, I see… Huh, so Megadea-san nominated Pakira-san. Ah, Mineha-san, well of course her mother… Wait. Why is Axe-san’s name here?”

Ens? Judging from this list, he was one of the newly promoted.
So why did he nominate Axe-san?

“Witch, why is Axe-san on here?”

“Ahh, ahh, yes yes. You’ll find out soon enough, but for now I can’t say.”

“…I see.”

What could that mean?

“Hey, Wof-chi. There’s one name that catches your eye most, right?”

Chive-san pressed me, while Shiro-san let out a sigh.

“To put it bluntly, this is unprecedented.”

“It is my first time seeing it as well.”

“……”

“Well, well now. What exactly does this mean, hmm?”

The Witch spoke not to me, but to the other three. They all fell silent.

I gave up.

“…Why is my name showing up all over this list…?”

No less than six people had nominated me.
And out of those, one was a man, the rest were five women.
And four of those women were sitting right here.

“Shiro told you, didn’t she? When it was just the two of you. You remember, don’t you? She said she’d decided on you.”

“She did say that.”

It was after we’d shared a meal.
So this is what she meant.

“I also told you, when it was just the two of us—that I’d nominate you.”

“You did.”

That was when we were in the pot bath together.
But really, could you both stop emphasizing the ‘when it was just the two of us’ part?

Munieka-san, of course, declared naturally:

“I did not say anything.”

“You could at least say it!”

But no—that wasn’t the problem here! Whether she said it or not didn’t change the issue!

Munieka-san lowered her head politely.

“My apologies. Since you are my Master, and we are in a lord-servant relationship, I assumed it unnecessary to say aloud.”

Wait, hold on—wasn’t that “lord-servant relationship” something she’d just decided on her own!?

“As for Kon—well, unlike the others, I didn’t need to say anything. After all, Wof-boy is Kon’s disciple. My disciple!”

She said it twice. Was it just me, or did she sound strangely flustered?

Still, she was right.
The rest of us tactfully ignored Narcissus.

“…But by the way, why did that old man Abramelin nominate you?”

“Yeah, what’s up with that, seriously—”

“Even I was shocked.”

“I had to double-check to believe my eyes.”

“…Why?”

Yeah—why!?

And this preference sheet was in the possession of every First-Rank Explorer.
In other words, every one of them knew about this already.

…Fantastic. Just fantastic.

Late at night.

The black sofa in the living room had become my bed.
It was wide, comfortable, and easy to sleep on.

“…?”

Suddenly, I sensed something strange. I opened my eyes.

The Witch was there.

She was on all fours, hands and knees on the black sofa, leaning over me—looking down at me.

…Huh?

“……”

…Huh?

Eh?

…Eh!?
